Can a doctor withhold college paperwork?

Have you talked with the doctor herself or just the receptionist? I'd ask to see the doctor or the "practice manager" and let them know what's going on. Ask for a written list of anything outstanding to get the form filled out and then make sure they have copies.

Come August, I'm going to college, and like every other college out there, mine requires a health form to be filled out by your doctor. Well, I gave mine to my doctor like a month and a half ago, and she never filled it out. I went back 2 weeks ago and I was told that I had to go get a blood test and then it would be filled out. So, I went and had the test done. Today, I went to get my form and they were like, it's not filled out and you have to get another test done or else she won't fill it out. I mean, are they for real? Can a doctor withhold your papers for college because they want to do a test that you don't want? Thanks!

Oh, and if it matters, I live and will be going to college in New York.

I just talked to a receptionist. She was trying to get the NP who could fill my form out so I could talk to her, but I couldn't wait very long because I had another appointment I had to get to.

Unless it's a test that is required from the college health center then, no, she should not be holding up your paperwork. Call the college health center...or get another copy of the form...see what you've had done and what you need to have done. Talk to them, then go back to your doctor so you can get everything straight. You very well may need the other test, but the only way to make sure is by looking at the form and talking to the health center.

Sometimes tests or shots can be waived if you've had them within so many years. Be patient and be persistent. There is a lot of paperwork in college and you really have to keep track of it. Keep copies of EVERYTHING. If you sign something...tell them to get you a copy.

Depending on the size of the place...they may not have someone called a Practice Manager. I've been to various sized practices and never had one.

If the test is nothing required by the college, then she had no reason to keep it and should give it back to you.

So I talked to the NP and she said that I could pick up my form today. They still want me to do the test, but I don't have to before getting the form.

If I were you, I'd call her bluff and tell her to return the form to you because you will find another doctor. Its a standard physical with a fee. You may have to get updated vaccines if you've been negligent especially with the Hepatitis B vaccine, but this doctor is like all the rest, they just keep on jerking you along!
