Can a dead car battery be repaired?

To settle an argument. Can a dead / bubbling cell in a car battery be easily repaired?
 
If the battery is bubbling, as you stated, that means there is a short circuit inside the battery. So to answer your question: No, it cannot be repaired.
 
If its dead because it was discharged it can be recharged. If its dead because it will not hold a charge, then, its done and needs to be replaced. Most auto parts stores have a load testing machine for batteries, they can test it and tell you if it truly dead or not.
