Can a cellphone, also used as a MP3 player, be infected by a virus?

I was concerned because I just had a new hard drive and I'm afraid to put a virus in it so I don't want to put Lime wire and music just yet in my drive. So then I had a BRILLIANT idea : Why don't I install Lime wire and choose the path of the music I download directly in the cellphone so no virus can get in my hard drive! We all know that lime wire has a bad habit of having fake music hidding viruses. But if I put a song, that is actually a virus (but I don't know it), in my phone will it act just like a computer and throw a tantrum and if not will it transfer its viruses in my brand new hard drive each time I plug it in the computer ?

Yes they have probably created one by now. If i were you i would kill Lime wire and instead just rip songs off Youtube. It may take more time but its safer. As for the phone if it starts acting funny just take it into where you bought it. Also run a few virus scans and malware scans.
