Can a backpack count as your personal item for Delta Airlines?

I know on the web site it says things like a briefcase, laptop bag, and purse, but would a regular book bag count as my personal item?

I think it counts. Just buy a bigger backpack and stick the items inside. Most backpacks and not weighted.

yes, as long as it's a small backpack, like it has to fit on your lap

Yes, it would count as your personal item as long as it still is within the size requirements--i.e. a hiking backpack is too big . You could also have a carry-on (roller board, etc.).

A book-bag will be fine.
