Can a 1996 Ford Taurus with 298 000 miles last?

if i change the oil,do the tune up routine and everything,someone wants to sell this vehicle to me for 600 bucks ,i am a high school student so i can't afford anything expensive for now...what do you know about ford Taurus with too many miles?
 
Jesus that's a lot of miles. You might be able to find a Ford Escort or Mercury Tracer (maybe a Corolla) for as cheap or maybe a little more with a lot fewer miles.

I guess you would have to ask someone that knows something about cars to take a look at it. Sometimes cars seem to last a long time. Just don't buy it and have it crap out in a week.
 
It's a good deal .The only thing is that you'll spend more money on repairing it than you will be buying it. You'll have to more oil changes and transmissions checks, but other than that you'll be just fine with the car.

Those taurus are tough.. not going to lie, i'm guessing it's got the 3.0 v6 in it, which from what i seen can put up heck of a fight.... now don't get me wrong that's a lot of miles.... a lot of miles, but i look at it like this, other than oil leaks from the oil pan, and rear main seal, and transmission pan.... if the car has got that far, nothing is going to stop it from another 298,000 miles :-)
 
my 98 Taurus has 300,000 but anytime your buying a used car you follow a check list type into search box

will get you one so you can check for signs or problems finding anything on that list leads you aways from getting it
