CAmera Set up - Night clubs, lounges etc. - Low light?

What is the usual set up shooting on events i.e clubs, lounges etc,

I tried it in my room with a lamp and a strobe light to kinda replicate the club environment and i came up with shutter speed - 4 and aperture of 4.5 with 500 iso no flash

but i notice i image are sometimes are blurry oh yeah im using the Manual mode.. I'm really to DSLR. Inputs and additional info will be really appreciated. Thank you.

Should i use flash? just worried when using a flash will kill the whole club scenery.. please help.
I only have 18-135 mm and 55 -200 mm

I yes thank you i meant 4" what does make it wide as possible means?

I want the people to be sharp... and blur the lightings or the backround.. I only have the built in flash.

My first shoot will be on saturday. I'm kinda nervous that will will have crappy photos....

no, you shouldn't use the flash, it will kill the scene, and eliminate the night-life environment in the picture you're trying to capture. Plus, if you were going to use the flash, you'd have to use a very strong speedlight, the pop-up flash wouldn't too, because it couldn't cover the field of the entire image.-4 isn't a shutter speed on a Nikon camera, do you mean 4" which means four seconds? that would be a nice speed to use, and depending on your lens, keep the aperture as wide as it can go, zoom all the way out, and make it as wide as possible for the scene. that shutter speed won't bne fast enough to stop motion at all, you'll get blur, but that's not a problem, if you have a tripod, this could be quite a desireable effect in photography. The bar can be completely in focus, and the moving people blur out, thus creating a nice effect.if you want to stop motion, you'll have to raise the ISO really high, and risk a lot of grain, which isn't very desireable in a shot whatsoever.
 
Higher ISO if you don't want to use flash (and it does ruin the scene anyway)
