okay. Recently i have been looking for a new camera as my old one broke T^T .However now i am becoming more and more involved with photography, and unfortunately i have not the budget for a DSLR so i am looking for a decent camera - hopefully a superzoom camera (is this advisable) Advice/recommendations from relatively experienced photographers would be highly welcome.

>good manual controls,
>Large optical zoom-preferably super zoom-may i ask what are the pros and cons with super zooms?
>good image quality
>fast shutter speed
>view finder as well as LCD is preferable
>image stablisation
>face recognition-not neccessary

unfortunately on top of this i have a budget of £100-not much over £200

further questions:
what is a good ISO rating?
thank you.

Most of the have all the functions that you need. I had one (Kodak Z650) before going for an SLR. Viewfinder is achieved electronically through the lens, and not using mirrors/prisms optically. IS was also quite rare a couple of years ago, and becoming more common.

The problem's that superzooms are they are quite chunky, but their manual controls are far off what an SLR or Bridge can provide, and they are restricted by the small size of the sensor.

Consider the following

Canon Powershot SX110
Canon Powershot S5 - better camera, but slightly out of your price range, has all functions, is 432mm (focal length equiv) at the long end, and has a hot shoe to mount a flash.
Nikon L100 - more megapixels, similar quality to the S5, also out of price range slightly, but no shoe, similar at the long end.
Panasonic TZ5 - though not as long at the other two at the long end, its a smaller camera, cheaper and the lens is the very impressive Leica made one.
Plus Fuji seem to specialise in superzooms, so I'll give the highlights,
Fuji S5700 - Longer than the Panasonic, at 380mm zoom, and only 7MP but prices start from £90
Fuji S1000 - Longer than the 5700, 396mm and 10MP.
Fuji S1500 and S2000HD also worth looking at.

Personal choice is the Canon S5, it is closer to a bridge to any other superzoom, I believe it is the only one here to have a shoe mount and manual focus, both of which are helpful in being more creative.
