Camera button on HTC desire HD and Map problem?

I have a htc desire hd on t-mobile. I have 2 questions.

1- On the camera, is there a way to set the top (power button) as the camera button so i dont have to tap the screen?

and

2- On google maps, it works but it keeps dissapearing and the checkered background keeps flashing over it and it randomly closes so the app is not usable atall.
