Cam Tensioner Replacement Cost

Brought my bike in for 35,000 mile service. Asked them to check the tensioners. (2005 RKC) Ended up getting a whole new package. (cams, tensioners, chain, oil pump etc......) This was all covered under my 7 yr. extended service comtract.

P.S. Also had the shifter shaft seal replaced at 32,000 miles and again at 40,000. Can't see how it only lasted for 8,000 miles however both times again covered by the warranty.

Take it from experience, I have bought 2 used bikes, I bought warranty with them thank god, the first I got 20,000 miles on it, and the tensioners failed to the point that it took out everything except the jugs, and heads.
The second bike is in the shop right now with every thing trashed but the heads, it took out the oil pump the oil pressure was at 20 pounds hot , I stopped when the oil pressure did that but the damage was done , it took out the inner cam bearing, wasted the lifter bores, and everything.
It is good that ESP is going to cover it because the parts, and labor is around $6,000.00....
The failure of the tensioners can take out a motor in a heart beat that is for sure.

I have an '05 with original tensioners, just over 25K on the clock. Dropping her off tonight for Gear Drive conversion, S&S 510 cams, SE cam plate, SE premium push rods (adj) upgraded oil pump, new lifters.

Also, as a side note, bike runs great, haven't had any problems. (knock on wood)

Thanks for the info, I bought my bike with 22,000 miles on it and it now has 73,000+ and I am still not hearing any unusual noise or see any drop or high oil pressure. I am going to put it in the shop in Nov. to get some things done, so will have them checked then. Got to have hand surgery, so won't be riding for a couple of months. Thanks for all the input.

PDDGM,

If you still have the oil filter, cut off one end to get the paper filter out and look at it very closely for orange pieces. Very, very, very little pieces!
With that many miles i'd have to think you'd see some. Maybe not a lot, but some.
I checked mine last oil change, at about 26K miles, and to my amazement, and disappointment, there were a few little pieces.

Hopefully...you're fine. Here's two pics of mine at 33k miles on my 02 RKC. I never heard any strange noises either. The worst one was the inner that very difficult to see when the cover is removed. I had my indy install gear drive with S&S 510g cams. Kit was a little over $600. SE adj pushrods $140, Daytona Twin Tec fuel mgr 175.00. Labor $200 Better torque and smoother acceleration. I have 42k miles now and am getting read to go to 95 big bore kit.
