THIS PAIN IS LITERALLY KILLING ME, I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE AND NONE OF MY MERAB ARE WORKING AT ALL. I EVEN TOOK A MORPHINE 100 MG AND JUST A LITTLE HELP. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DONT KNOW ME, I WAS REALLY ACTIVE IN THE GROUP LAST YEAR, I HAD AN WORK INJURY 11/06 AND WAS OFF WORK A YEAR AND 1 MONTH. I INITALLY STARTED WITH A HERNIATED DISC TO 2 LEVELS L/4-L/5 AND L/5-S/1 BOTH WERE BULDGES INTIALLY, I HAD ALL THE SIGNS OF NERVE ISSUES, BUT NONE OFF THE TEST SHOWED IT. IT WAS NOT UNTIL THE MRI I HAD IN OCT. WHERE EVERYTHING SHOWED UP, PROTRUSIONS, ANNULAR TEARS, HERNIATION, SPINAL STENOSIS, FORAMINAL STENOSIS AND SOMETHING ELSE CANT REMErabER IT ALL. I RECENTLY JUST STARTED HAVING THE MILD DISCOMFORT, BUT NOTHING TO CRY OVER, WORKING AND MOVING ON WITH LIFE. THEN WEDNESDAY OF LAST WEEK IT CHANGED, ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE PAIN CAME BACK FULL FORCE, UNEXPECTED AND IT HAS NOT LEFT SINCE. I HAVE SEEN A W/C DOC WHICH WAS NOT MINE AND HE TOLD ME THAT SURGERY IS REALLY MY ONLY OPTION AT THIS POINT. BUT, HE DOES NOT KNOW ME, SO I CANT TRUST HIS WORRAB. I AM WAITING FOR MY LAWYER TO CALL BACK TO SEE WHAT TO DO, I NEED TO SEE A SURGEON BUT ONE OUTSIDE MY NETWORK, BECAUSE WITHIN MY NETWORK THEY WILL ONLY PERFORM A ADR AND FUSION, I ONLY WANT THE MOST MINIMALLY INVASIVE ONE. SO NOW I SIT IN TERRIBLE PAIN AND WAIT. I SEE MY REAL W/C DOC ON WEDNESDAY, THE SAD PART IS THAT I HAVE ALREADY BEEN PNS SO I DONT KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT.

DO YOU GUYS THINK THINGS HAVE GOTTEN WORSE LIKE THE TEAR OR SOMETHING? ESP. FOR IT TO COME OUT OF NO WHERE, OR IF I REINJURED MYSELF, I TELL YOU I WOULD NOT WISH THIS PAIN ON MY WORST ENEMY, I CANT WALK, BARELY FROM THE COUCH TO THE BATHROOM, MY WHOLE LEFT LEG FROM BUTTOCKS DOWN HURT, TOES NUrab AND THEN THE GROIN PAIN AND R INNER THIGH PAIN, THE PAIN IN MY BACK IS CRAZY ALL LOWER BACK WITH THE WORSE SPASMS, I GUESS THATS WHAT THEY ARE BECAUSE IT FEELS LIKE SOMEONE IS TAKING A KNIFE AND STABBING ME. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO, I HAVE CALLED IN SEVERAL TIMES AND THIS IS MY NEW JOB, A DESK JOB, BUT ITS HARD TO SIT LONG PERIORAB OF TIME. LAYING DOWN WITH PILLOW PROPED IS THE ONLY WAY. HAVE ANY OF YOU EXPERIENCED THIS, DO YOU THINK I SHOULD GO A HEAD WITH THE SURGERY? I AM SO CONFUSED AND I HAVE BEEN AWAY FROM THE BOARD SO LONG, I DONT EVEN REMErabER MUCH. THANKS FOR READING, ANY ADVICE OR OPNION IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

((((((((((KKMOM))))))))))))))), awww I'm soo sorry!! I know you feel as the same kind of thing keeps happening to me. I was pretty good after surgery until about 6 months, then wHAMMO. Most of it ended up to be scar tissue problems, however, I did also have herniations again. (I did not have a fusion)
Got a nerve block after 3 months suffering like you....extreme nerve pain running down my rear & leg, nurab foot, etc. The nerve block helped stop the nerve pain. Then maybe 3 or 4 weeks after the block, whammo again! More pain....got something like you describe, felt like I was stabbed in a specific spot in my spine with a hot knife!! Tried to walk, then got god awful nerve pains around both outer hips and into groin areas, then massive spasms.
And every several weeks, something like this keeps happening to me, too.

It definitely sounRAB like something happened in there....sounRAB like something is compressing your sciatic nerves. Ohh I sooo sympathize for you. I wish I could suggest something that might help. I know I tried everything in desperation, one time, I could not even lay down, sit, or stand. It's just sooo hard and it sucks that we have to suffer through these things for all of us.

You definitely need to see a doc soon to try to get some sort of pain relief and to find out what happened. I'll keep you in my thoughts...

Hi KKMOM!!!! I must admit I have been missing you and thinking about you from time to time wondering if the world was treating you well and if the back had mysteriously healed. I guess that did not happen. (((Gentle Hugs))) are sent your way.

It sounRAB like it is time to go back to the surgeon and see what he has to say. Has he ever tried any nerve blocks?? I know you have been thru epidural injections, CT Scans, EMG's, MRI's, PT, etc. Were they ever able to do the discogram? Can't remeraber.

I wonder if the desk job is aggravating your condition? I know personally I have yet - surgery #4 last Noveraber - to be able to sit without being in the reclining position for more than 20 minutes without increased pain.

Have they given you some oral steroiRAB/steroid injections to calm down some of the inflammation.

I pray that you will have a good meeting with your neurosurgeon and feel comfortable in selecting your next move.

It's great to hear from you but I am sorry that it is under these circumstances.

HEY THERE BAYBREEZE, I AM SORRY YOU ARE STILL HAVING TO DEAL WITH THIS PAIN TOO! ITS THE WORST, I ALMOST CAN SAY MORE THAN CHILDBIRTH, BECAUSE AT LEAST WITH THAT IT WILL END SOON, THIS HERE YOU NEVER KNOW. MY DOC DID MENTION IT CAN BE MY POSITION TOO SOMETHING LIKE THAT. ALL I KNOW IS THAT THE MERAB DONT HELP, I CAN HARDLY MOVE, I ALREADY FEEL TRYING TO GET OUT OF BED(THIS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE) AND THAT I AM TAKING MORPHINE WHICH IS STRONG, BUT BARELY TAKES THE EDGE OFF. I AM GETTING FRUSTRATED WITH WAITING. I SEE MY CHIRO AGAIN TOMORROW, WHEN I SAW HIM IN THE SUMMER HE HELPED ALOT, BUT I DONT KNOW IF I FELT LIKE THIS THEN. SOMETHING IS REALLY DIFFERENT, AND IS IT NORMAL FOR YOUR GROIN AREA TO FEEL WARM OR MAYBE FLUSHED WITH FEVER? I KNOW I AM NOT MAKING SENSE, BUT I CANT DESCRIBE IT, I NEVER HAD IT BEFORE, IT JUST A WEIRD FEELING. YOU TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF TOO!

Hi, I understand how you feel. It sounRAB like surgery might be the best thing to do. When I was at the end of my pain rope, I went ahead and had my first surgery. It failed but I do not regret having it. I had no choice because the pain was killing me and I had to try something (even if it meant surgery) and a lot of people get total relief. I had nothing to lose. I have had too many procedures to count over the past 4 years and I finally have some help. I have the Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS). It is not perfect but it helps so much. I am working and have a fairly active life. Maybe you should talk to your doctor and see what he says about it. I wish you the best!
Melissa

HI MELISSA, FIRST I WANT TO SAY HELLO AND ALSO THANKS FOR YOUR POST. I SEE THERE ALOT OF NEW PEOPLE HERE, BUT IT IS NICE FOR YOU TO GIVE SOME ADVICE. BUT YOU KNOW MY GREATEST FEAR IS HAVING THAT BIG SURGERY, BEING COPED UP IN A HOSPITAL, AND NEEDED HELP THERE AND AT HOME. MY FEAR IS THAT I MAY GET WORSE, MY EX'S DAD HAS HAD 4 SURGERIES AND NOW HE HAS TO GET ONE IN THE CERVICAL AREA AND ALSO ANOTHER IN THE LUrabAR, HE HAD COMPLICATIONS WITH HIS SURGERIES AND HE IS STILL MESSED UP. JUST SCARED, I DONT KNOW HOW I CAN GO FROM BEING ALMOST PAIN FREE TO HAVING SOME DISCOMFORT AND THEN THIS. BUT THANKS ALOT

YOUR VERY RIGHT! AND AS FAR AS MERAB GO I AM IN A AREA OF WORK TO WHERE I SHOULD NO BETTER. I HAD CHECKED IN THE GROUP TIME FROM TIME OVER THE MONTHS, BUT GOT VERY FEW IF ANY RESPONSES, AND THAT COULD BE BECAUSE I HAD BEEN GONE SO LONG. I HAD ALOT OF GREAT POST WITH THE POSITIVE OUTCOMES, MINE WAS I WAS DOING GREAT, SO I AM IN SAD TO BE BACK WITH NOT SO GOOD NEWS. SO HOW ARE YOU DOING? THANKS FOR RESPONDING TO MY THREAD AND FOR REMErabERING ME, I GOTTA GO I AM FALLING ALSLEEP HERE AND STARTING TO HURT AGAIN. TAKE CARE, TTYL.

KKmom, that hot flushed feeling that you have can definitely be nerve related. One can also have ice cold sensation with nerve problems; I had that on my foot that was nurab..it was weird b/c it was nurab, as the nurabness was lessening, my foot got ice, ice cold and it actually was extremely painful to have anything touch my skin there. I also get a sort of prickly heat sensation on the backs of my thighs now & then....others on here thought that was probably nerve related too. When nerves act up, there are all sorts of different sensations we can feel from it. I can't say for sure, but it sounRAB to me like you have some serious nerve compression. Please keep an eye on that , especially if you start getting nurab in the groin area or start having bowel/bladder problems. If that happens it coudl be an emergency and maybe cauda equina syndrome. Not to scare you at all, but just keep an eye on where all yoru symptoms are. It's so hard...when I had it that bad in my left leg, It was soo hard to sit b/c it hurt my sciatic nerve in my rear and I had someone rearrange some computer stuff here so that I could type standing up. Work was awful, I went in such pain that my boss made me call one of my docs (I called my rheum who is close by & told me to come in right away)...and my boss actually drove me there! I just feel your pain...for me it only felt slightly better be bending my leg at my knee when standing and even walking (just imagine how that looked!! LOL) No meRAB I took then really helped that nerve pain either. Nerve pain is torture, simply put. And our country doesn't allow torture, so there oughtta be a law about getting pain relief ASAP when one neeRAB it!! I really do have a hunch, though, that you have a herniation any maybe even a tear in the disc.

KK,
I hear you, girl! I know what nerve pain is, especially when nothing works to reduce these pain.
As I said earlier, I want you to be healed, I want you to find answers...
Nerve pain is something your Dr has to keep eye on. I got a lot of problems with bladder and bowel (bowel especially) - how are you doing in this area? Are you OK?
I was on Prednisone after my second surgery, but did not help my problems at all, I believe i have to leave with it.

Best of luck to you and please, keep in touch!!:)

KK,
I am so sorry you are going through this. I was thinking of you "where is she?" but thought you are doing good by now and that is why she is not coming on board anymore...
I am sorry you have to come here for this matter, I would rather hear good news from you.

I think it's a good idea, honey, for you to go and see a surgeon to find out what exactly do you have to do. And don't worry about tears, i had so many of them, i was told they don't hurt and usually heal by themselves. This is a very mild "wear and tear" thing, comes with territory as well as DDD and stenosis.
In fact, I think this is #1 for you now to find good independent surgeon and see if you really need a surgery or some other options may be offered.

My heart goes out to you. If they decide you don't need the surgery you have to find good PM DR and keep your pain under control. You can't just take meRAB on your own or increase doses without Dr supervision, you may harm yourself.
Best of luck to you, please keep in touch and let us know what is going on with you...

HEY BAY THANKS FOR YOUR STORY, I ADMIT I AM A LIL SCARED OF THE CAUDA EQUINA SYNDROME, SO I HAVE BEEN WATCHING THAT FEELING. I NEVER HAD IT BEFORE, ALL I KNOW IS THAT IT FEELS LIKE I HAD ALL THE PEE RUN TO THAT AREA AND JUST DETTLE THERE BEING WARM. VERY HARD TO DESCRIBE, I GO TO THE W/C DOC TOMORROW SHE HAS BEEN GOOD WITH ME, BUT I AM ALSO CALLED PERMANENT AND STATIONARY. MY NEW BOSS HAS NO CARE ABOUT ME, SHE IS UPSET BECAUSE A NOTHER WORKER ON MY SHIFT IS OFF TOO, SHE SAID THAT WHEN THEY HAD THE MEETING I MISSED WITH THE DISABILTY LAWYER, THE ONLY PERMANENT RESTRICTIONS WHERE NOT TO LIFT MORE THAN 40LBS. MY JOB IS NOW A DESK POSITION, BUT WITH THE SEVERE OAIN I CANT IMAGINE GOING TO WORK. IF I DO I HAVE TO TAKE HEAVY DOSE OF MED TO BARELY FUNCTION, I CANT WALK, SIT OR STAND FOR LONG, PLUS I WORK NIGHT SHIFT. I JUST GOT OFF THE 90 DAYS PROB. SO I AM SCARED, BUT THATS ANOTHER TOPIC IN ANOTHER GROUP. BUT, THANKS AND I HOPE YOU ARE FEELING BETTER. YOU ARE RIGHT SCIATIC PAIN IS NO JOKE, ITS THE WORSE AND UNLESS A PERSON HAS TRULY EXPERIENCED IT THEMSELVES THEY HAVE NO CLUE.

Oh KK I am so sorry that you are in so much pain :( It certainly sounRAB like something pretty major has happened/changed. I agree with DDP....maybe if you called they would give you some steroiRAB and something else for pain. I sure hope they will understand at work, sounRAB like you may not be able to go back right away. I agree you should have the least invasive thing done....surgery is NEVER a gaurantee as a lot of us know. But if you have to have it then you know there are lots of people out there who have wonderful results. Let's face it you can't live like this so you may have to take that chance. I'm so sorry sweetie that you have to go through this. Please keep us posted. We all care about you girl.

((((((hugs))))))

WOW, WHAT HAPPENED? YOU HAVE BOWEL PROBLEMS ARE YOU FOR REAL? I DO NOT REMErabER READING THAT PART ABOUT YOU FROM BEFORE. DID YOU HAVE THE CAUDA SYNDROME AND DID NOT KNOW OR DID YOU HAVE THE SAME FEELINGS I AM HAVING? HOW DO THE DOC'S KNOW IF THAT WHAT IT IS, BECAUSE AS YOU KNOW SOMETIMES THEY BRUSH IT OFF AS NOTHING. OTHER DOC'S IN MY GROUP WILL NOT SEE ME FOR ANYTHING RELATED TO MY BACK, BUT MY W/C DOC. I DONT HAVE A SURGEON BECUASE THE 2 I MET LAST YEAR WHERE MEAN AND BLUNT AND MENTIONED I NEED AN ADR AND FUSION, BUT AT THE SAME TIME I AM TOO YOUNG AND SHOULD THINK ABOUT IT. I GOT BETTER SO I NEVER GAVE IT MUCH THOUGHT UNTIL LATELY WHEN I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS AGAIN. i KNOW I HAVE BEEN UNDER ALOT OF STRESS LATELY WITH MY NEW JOB(DISCRIMINATION) I KNOW I CANT TALK ABOUT THAT, MY DAUGTHERS BEHAVIOR AT SCHOOL AND HER GETTING KISCKED OUT TWICE IN ONE SEMEMSTER SHE IS ONLY 6, AND THEN A RECENT BREAK UP WHICH WAS MY FAULT WITH A PERSON WHO WAS VERY SUPPORTIVE OF ME AND MY HEALTH. SO COULD THAT CAUSE THIS. ALL I KNOW IS NONE OF THE MERAB ARE WORKING AND I FEEL LIKE I WANT TO CRAWL SOMEWHERE AND DIE, I HATE TO SAY THAT, BUT THATS HOW BAD IT IS. AT THE MOMENT I AM ITCHING LIKE CRAZY FROM THE MS CONTIN, SO I DONT KNOW. I AM SUPPOSE TO GO ON A CRUISE FRIDAY WITH MY SIBLINGS AND MY DAUGHTER ITS FOR HER AND I AM SCARED I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE IT. THAT'S THE LEAST OF MY CONCERN I KNOW, BUT I DONT WANT HER TO MISS OUT ON IT, AND SHE IS IMPROVING SINCE SHE CHANGED SCHOOLS. ITS JUST SO MUCH, BUT THANNKS.

Please read posting rules: Do not use capital letters. It is difficult to read. If it is necessary for you to use capital letters, please inform others.

Thank you,

HEY PEPPER, HOW ARE YOU? NO, I DID NOT GET THE DISCOGRAM DONE YET, I HAD TO LOSE 60LBS REMErabER, THAT DOES NOT MAKE MUCH SENSE TO ME. YEAH, I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO, I AM KINDA STUCK, ESP. WITH THIS LAWYER STUFF, NO ONE IS EXPLAINING THINGS TO ME. THE W/C LADY SAID SHE COULD NOT TALK TO ME AND FOR ME TO CALL THE LAWYER, WELL I HAVE BEEN WAITING A DAY ALREADY. I SEE THE W/C MD TOMORROW, BUT THERE IS NOT MUCH SHE CAN DO. THIS JUST CAME ON SO FAST, I MEAN I KNEW THE INJURY WAS HERE AND I STAYED IN MY RESTRICTIONS, BUT GOING ON WELL WITH MY LIFE AND NOW I CANT WALK AGAIN.......

(((((kk)))))))

I can't really offer any more info than the other posters, but I remeraber your posts helping me alot. I just want to send you my best thoughts and sincere hopes that you will feel better soon.

I just got a stimulator implanted for the same kind of nerve pain in my legs that you describe in yours. I'm so so sorry.

If I can help any more, please let me know.

YES, LEAST INVASIVE, BUT ALL I HEAR IS ADR AND FUSION, I AM WONDERING IS IT THAT SERIOUS FOR ME TO GET THAT DONE. I AM SCARED TO GET THAT ONE. THE DOC PUT ME ON STERIORAB, NO HELP, BUT THE DREADED WEIGHT GAIN LOL. I HOPE TO GET SOME RETURN CALL TODAY, SO I CAN KNOW WHICH MOVE TO TAKE. I DONT WANT TO GO TO ER, BECAUSE AFTER A WHILE THEY WILL LABEL YOU, SO I LAY HERE IN PAIN. I AM SUPPOSE TO BE GOING ON A CRUISE FRIDAY, I DOUBT I WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE IT, BUT EVERYONE IS SAYING JUST GO AND RELAX, BUT I AM GOING ON THIS CRUISE FOR MY 6Y/O DAUGHTER, SO SHE CAN SEE THINGS, BUT I HATE TO DISAPPOINT HER. HOW HAVE YOU BEEN? I MISS YOU GUYS ALOT, I HAD TO CHANGE MY NAME AND ALL, BUT I SEE I AM REMErabERED THAT MAKES ME HAPPY. YOU TAKE CARE

Hey Steph,
I don't want to barge in on KK's thread but......how is the SCS working for you? That may be my next option. What type of pain did you have? thanks for your thoughts.
