(Calling all great authors) Can you think of a good happy ending (or epilogue) for this?

A hardcover book was flung maliciously at Jack’s head. He winced slightly when it hit him but he kept quiet.
“Go away! Get OUT! I hate you!” his disgusted mother spat scornfully at him. Calmly, Jack turned around and softly slipped out of her room. It had always been this way. His parents despised him for being born as a boy, unlike his younger sister, Jane, who was the perfect little girl that they wanted. His parents physically abused him and tormented him with hurtful words. Still, Jack had a mysterious immeasurable love for his family.

He pondered about what to do and made up his mind after arriving at the door to his bedroom. Jack then meekly shut his eyes and yelled, “I love you!” as a brief silence ensued. He entered his room and shut his door, peering out at the window revealing the night sky. The illumination of the moon dully adumbrated most of his features. He bowed his head and lightly locked his hands together.

“Lord, please forgive me for angering my parents. Please encourage them to forgive me. I will work hard to become a better son they will love. I will strive to become a great older brother for my younger sister. I plead with my entire heart, Lord, please bless all of them. Thank you for all you have given me. Amen,” he breathed.

His body suddenly slumped against the wall, over exhausted from taking his parents insults and severe attacks. He silently slipped away, his head resting against the cold wall of his bedroom...

Main Entry: fire

1a: being consumed by fire

2a: a destructive burning (as of a building) b1: death or torture by fire

Jack’s eyes shot open in panic when he detected the scent of smoke. He was already drenched in sweat as he wearily tried to register what was going on. The first thought that clearly shot into his mind was of Jane. He sprang up and bolted out the door and to her room. He slammed her flaring door down with his bare foot and quickly scanned the room. There was no sign of her. He threw the covers off of the bed to no avail. Gritting his teeth, he shoved the closet door open as his hands reddened from the searing hot pain. Still, empty. A wave of panic engulfed him as the fire spread. Realization washed over him when he heard a faint whimper from the corner of the room. He spotted his sister behind a fallen desk. He gave her his hand as she hesitatingly took it and then he scooped her up in his arms. He bolted out of her room right before a sofa broke down from above. Wounding himself on the leg while running down the stairs, he managed to get out before the whole house collapsed. “Mommy!!! Daddy!!!” she screamed.

Jack just stared at the house, oblivious to the wailing of the sirens that were coming closer. His eyes stared, unblinking, from his soot-covered face, and he breathed heavily. He bit his lip and glanced at his sobbing sister. “Don’t worry, they’re probably out of the house somewhere,” He assured.

His sister shook her head and choked out, “I saw them on the floor. I think they were sleeping. Bu-but they’ll die! They’ll die if they stay in there!”

Jack’s world crashed around him leaving him engulfed in an everlasting darkness filled with nothing but grief and despair.

“You didn’t even see me as the person I wanted to be in front of you. Mother, Father, why, why were you so cruel?” he whispered. Looking at his sobbing sister he grimaced, “You’re still crying?”

Silence ensued, Jane finally breaking it with one simple question, “Why won’t you?”

His face showed clearly that he was taken aback, and no answer followed.
And that’s when he decided to let it all out, all the pain, the hurt, the sufferings he had kept bottled up for years. He hugged her as close as he possibly could until they were barely an inch apart.

And for the first time in years, Jack cried.

kyaa >/////< Thank you!~
Oh yeah, I'm also thinking of making the happy ending with a wedidng ring form his parents(or real parents(?)). Wedding ring in a box, found in the burnt ashes...idk how though xD
ermm...I love your ending but I need a happy ending ^^;;, this story is for a competition, but I overlooked a detail that said that it needed to give hope and happiness to ppl. ==;;

It's really good. lol I just read A Child Called It they're really similar.

I like it because everybody gets what they deserve in the end. Or maybe you could add a cruel scene. Where He about to leave the house and he sees his mother but she's under a lot wreckage. And she gives her hand to him. And tries to beg and he becomes hesitant about to grasp her hand but something falls. And he's about to go and save her but a fireman draws him out. And he's fighting But it's too late. because all around them things start to fall apart.

I don't know. Sometimes when I write, these dramatic things start to come out lol

Or you could have him committ suicide. I'm such a malicious person and you're probably the sweetest. haha XDD

haha ^.^' sorry about that. Then maybe he could find something from the house something symbolic in the ashes. You've probably heard of this thing: the pheonix rising from the ashes reborn?? I think it was in Harry Potter. Maybe he finds something that gives him hope to keep pursuing life even though a great disaster has just occured. These are just ideas.

your story is very good. Only add what you think is right.
Good luck on the contest
