C50T Oil Filter Compatibility

I had a 2003 Vulcan, and traded it in on my new 2007 C50T. With the Vulcan, I was able to cross-reference oil filters that were larger than the stock one, and used them. Does anyone know what other oil filters are compatible with the bike? Example, the Vulcan I had used a OEM # 16097-1072, I was able to use auto filters like so:

So, I used the 3.25 inch fiters and only had to change the oil once every season. IS there such a chart for the C50T?
 
I have no idea, which is why I asked. The motors are not the same, the KAW -vs- the SUZ. My uncle has the last run-year of the volusia, and his motor looks just like the Vulcan motor. The newer bikes, the motors look different.
 
ya, but oil filter mountings aren't THAT much all over the place.

go to the WIX filters page, and they have motorbike applications. you can then check specs of the kawi and suzy filters and see if the thread / diameter are the same

Ok, the Vulcan threads are 20X1.5 MM, and the C50T is 20x1.0, so the chart I have, none of those filters will work.

SO I need a compatible, longer, filter with these specs:

Thread: 20x1.0 MM
By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: 8-11
Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes
Burst Pressure-PSI: 250
Max Flow Rate: 9-11
Nominal Micro Rating: 13

The OE filter is almost 3"...

Anyone using Synthetic oil in their engine?

ya, diff thread pitch. hmm.... i wish WIX had a table / chart of all their oil filters with specs, so that you could choose a filter based on certain stuff...

While there is nothing wrong with using a larger filter, two things come to mind. You will, of course, need slightly more that the standard amount of oil to fill the system properly. AND The filter does not remove ALL of the bad things that accumulate in the oil so you should not go past the recommended change interval (you didn't mention how many miles you ride in that "season") just because of the larger filter. A larger filter will NOT prolong the useful life of the oil.:shock:

IMHO, however, the use of a larger filter is more trouble than it is worth. Unless there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with the bike, there is about 500% overkill already in the stock filter. There is more than enough filter capacity to handle any normal amount of crud. Most recommend changing the filter every other oil change. For more piece of mind, change the filter every oil change (I suspect most folks do that).



Sure, lots of folks do. The smart ones make sure that it is "motorcycle specific" synthetic.
 
I used the longer filters mainly for just the added bit of cooling surface. When I used the stock filter on the vulcan, the cooling fan came on more often than with the longer filter. I change the oil and filter every season, no matter how many miles I ride from year to year, I just change it every 1st riding day of the year. You sometimes get more volume with a larger filter, and more oil in the system means cleaner oil in the long run, but, no matter, I change it every year. I might put 2000 miles a year on it.
