c50c exhaust problem

I bought a suzuki boulevard c50c 2006 in march 2008 from a man who lives nearby. I have loved the bike since I bought it, but I recently noticed something and brought it back to him to see what could be causing the problem, and he said he has never seen that before.

My exhaust is burning through the right rear turn signal, chrome painted plastic along with the bulb cover turning black.

Has anyone else known of this problem with the c50 or c50c, and if so do you know what could be causing it.

The exhausts are stock, and unless the bike was dropped or something else, I don't know what could be causing this to happen. I now have silver muffler repair tape on the bottom of the turn signal light on the right rear to avoid burning the wiring and it doesnt look pretty.

Any information on this would be appreciated.

Maybe if it sat and idled for a two hours on a day with no wind then maybe the exhaust might start to melt the light. I'm with Vinnie and would be more suspicious about the bulb/wiring in that light.

Mmmmm....yes but.....

A bulb too big or a bad connection in the socket would PROBABLY melt something toward the TOP of the signal.

Something (maybe even relatively small) might be deflecting the exhaust. Saddle bags, intake mods, large windshield might be deflecting the exhaust flow. So could a "ding" at the end of the exhaust pipe itself.

One would think that you could rev. the engine and feel the hot gasses hitting the signal......but it might only happen with rider in place and moving down the road.

Hope it's a bulb/socket problem. That would be much easier to fix.

Sounds like a bulb/socket issue to me as well. The pipes just aren't high enough to be in line with the bottom of the turn signal. Check the wiring etc.

Just bought a 2005 C50 within the last week. After bringing the bike home and start cleaning I too noticed the discoloration of the right rear turn signal.. I think this is coming from exhaust at extensive idling. The exhaust is pushed out the small diameter pipe directly under the turn signal. My discoloration did clean off with a little wax though.. Just got to remember not to let the bike sit still very long idling. Maybe my new Jardine pipes will solve this problem...I get to install them tonight!!

My right rear turn signal always discolours from the exhaust.
A little cleaning after every ride, has become a habit.

I can't see it burning through.

If you could post a couple of pictures, it would help.

Thanks for all of your replies. I just looked at my bike again and ran it into town, and the exhaust is definitely getting the chrome plastic on the turn signal not only black but is burning through. Will try to get picture of it and figure out how to send it herel.
