C50 Brakes

I noticed the C50s only have a single disc in the front, is it as effective as a double disc system or could it use some help? I'm thinking of trading mine for a fuel injected bike, any other input would be great, thanks!

single vs dual disc is primarily a concern for racing bikes.

The argument being you'll be on the brakes hard and often.

regular bikes, regular driving, shouldn't be a problem.

The C50's stopping power is adequate, but could be better. I've read elsewhere that replacing the front brake line with a braided steel unit makes a big difference. I can't say, I've not done it. I've ridden my C50 for 3 years now, without any problems, but I'm not convinced that fuel injection is that big an advantage.

Yes it is. And if you check the bike listed under his avitar, you'll see he doesn't own one.;-)

As for the original question, no, a single brake system is not as effective as a dual brake system. But a single disk up front is perfectly adaquate for the C50, which is only 800ccs and not that heavy. The mid-sized cruiser segment is very price sensitive, so you won't see a dual disk except where one is really needed, and most cruisers under 900ccs still use a rear drum.

having worked (working) in the rubber injection industry, I'm really curious to know how much elasticity there is with a rubber reinforced brake hose vs a stainless hose.

I imagine it is significant, or at least measurable.

I'd be curious about the numbers also, but from experience I can tell you there is a noticable difference. I also like the looks, and that they are so much less likely to be damaged. Last time I bought a brand new bike I swapped the brake lines to stainless the day I brought it home.

not being a materials expert, I would expect that as the brake fluid gets hot, the rubber tubing (which is reinforced with, heck I don't know) becomes plyable.

The tubing is held to a standard where it won't fail, but, as it becomes plyable, it would be prone to stretch.

Just not sure how much it would stretch. Probably around 5%, maybe a bit more, probably less.
