bypass password.... help

i have a HTC desire with android 2.2 and i use the letter password screen lock.
and now i have forgotten my password.. is there any way to bypass this lock ? i tried the safe mode and it didnt work..

P.S. if any then please tell me how to factory reset it.
 
Try logging in online to your GMail account that you used with your phone. You can also get a password reminder or password reset via the GMail website, then use that on your new password on your phone.

There are ways reset the phone, and this is in no way an implication aimed at you personally, but I refuse to tell people how to because 9/10 they're stolen and someone is simply trying to bypass the security.
