buying an unlocked phone and WARRANTY question

hi all.
if i buy an unlocked gsm phone from an online retailer,
and should the phone break down in the future,
would i have warranty with the phonemaker(i.e. motorolla) ?
would the manufacturer fix a broken unlocked phone, presumably imported?
if not, where would i get such a phone repaired ?
 
If the phone is not sold in US, there is no warranty with the manufacturers.

Some online retailers have warranty programs, in which, you have to send the phone in so they could send it out for fixing.
