It's a kawasaki vulcan 800cc, approx 2005 with about 8000 km on it. Seller wants 4750, is offering 4000 too low?. First bike, for this newbie. Not much of a negoatiator myself, any tips, ideas?
The art of haggling and negotiating a used bike purchase is a dying skill:
Sellers set the price higher than what they know they will get. Buyers offer less than they know they will have to pay. The gap between the two is usually somewhere in the middle. if the seller starts saying crap like "I've got a guy willing to pay my price".. he's B.S-ing you; if that were true the bike would be gone. Stay firm on your offer until he starts to blow you off..if that happens offer a little more, but not alot.
Bottom line? NO $4000 is not too low. Your top dollar should only be 4200. and if he says no you may have to walk away to gain his respect... make sure he has your phone number. If he calls within 48 hours the bike is yours. ...if he doesn't call him and offer another 100. If he still him-haws around tell him to call you when he's done playing games...
I would not be it too big a hurry to buy a Vulcan, or any cruiser for that matter. Offer him half and if he doesn't hoover up your offer, take a walk. Life's too short to have four bills tied up in a cruiser.
