I know to know my credit score going into the dealership, but what is the reason since they will run it anyways? Also I have heard to get my own bank or find my own bank to finance for me...I should do this after I find the car I want?

What should I know before I buy? any tips will help...I am just looking for a car with the best gas millage and safe.

What used cars are the best? and what type of price should I be paying?

You might want to contact your local bank or credit union and find out if you can get approved for a low interest rate. If you know your credit score then it will help you to know ahead of time if you can get good deals on low interest financing. Some dealerships advertise 0% financing but only if your score is higher than 700.

In regards to what kind of cars to buy depends a lot on your budget. A $10,000 is a much different car vs. a $2000 car. Typically, the best car to buy is a 3 years old car with low miles that has taken initial depreciation hit. That said, you can find many great cars for around $10,000 like Ford Fusion, Mazda 3, Subaru Legacy, etc.. If you want really economical car, then Ford Focus but it might be too small if you have a family and kids. If you are looking for an SUV, then Ford Escape or Toyota Rav 4 should be your first choices as they are good on gas and reliable.

They use a different credit score once you get to the dealer than, say, a realtor or anyone else would. This is verified by various online sites. Also, plan on spending $2000-$3500 more than the MSRP. This is because the dealer adds on all sorts of small extras, like trim and deluxe floor mats and window tinting and body coating and undercoating, etc to jack up their profit margin. Be prepared for that shock.
