I am looking to purchase a mountain bike. Im 5ft 4" female and have been looking at men and ladies mountain bikes. I found 2 silverfox bikes that i like, the ladies is 12kg and with 18 gears and comes in 17 and 19" frame.
The mens is 15kg and 19" frame and with 18 gears.
So basically, is it better to choose a lighter bike (ladies) and smaller or bigger frame, assuming they both say they are suitable for my leg size of 29".
There are also male and female £15 cheaper dunlop bikes with 15 gears so would these be ok for a weekly get-fit 10mile cycle on fairly flat terrain or would you just pay the extra £15 for the silverfox bikes?

if your cycling on the flat then i assume your cycling on the road basically, i would recommend the cheaper bike as you wouldn't require all 18 gears. Another thing you might like to think about is how often you intend to use your bike. The reason i ask is because you may wish to purchase a bike with a softer saddle and soft hand grips to prevent blisters but the choice really is yours.

The lighter ladies bike with 18 gears is the best option because when you are buying a bike you need it to be light no matter what riding you are doing and with the most gear options. Get the best bike you can afford it really does make all the difference.
