I have been diagnosed with Piriformus Syndrome, where my sciatic nerve passes through the piriformus instead of under it as normal. i also greater trochanter bursitis on the same hip and swelling on da outside of the hip where calcium has depostited. Have been doing stretchs eg piriformus stretch etc but it dosent seem to be getting rid of the pain. has anyone suffered from this and found a cure to there problem or anyone with any tips, much appricated as ive been suffering from this for the last 7 mths. Cheers!

Just came across your post and I have basically the same thing (just for a week though) and am desperate for relief as pain pills do very little and stretching I'm not sure if I'm doing more damage. Hurts to sit, walk, lie down, no relief. Wondering if yours has improved, and what if anything, helps. Thanks and be well.

its a long and hard road back 4 you im afraid! it took me 9 mths before the constint pain went away. i found dat resting it didnt help it at all! infact at times it just got worse! go to a good physio, one that has experience in treating this kind of injury and get a stretching program of him! make sure ur doing da piriformus stretch and a hip flexer stretch to try and loseing the area up. you will proberly be giveing a strengthening program to, as it could be comeing from inbalancement in your body. your gonna need plenty of dicipline and doing your strectchs twice every day. heres a link * link to commercial website, and website information, removed by hb-mod, moderator * do daPiriformis & Psoas Stretch espically and hold it 4 up 2 5mins! i hope this helps but all i can say is get a good physio!

Thanks, Martintkd, I will google the info on piriformis and psoas stretch, tho I have been doing some stretches already. Have to be careful to balance exercise/stretching with resting, but you're right, resting isn't any better for the pain than moving around. It's way worse with me as the day goes on, and by bedtime, it's really hurting, and I have to keep getting out of bed and walking up and down. What a drag, but to keep things in perspective, hey I'm glad I can walk! Neurontin (gabapentin) has been helping, especially to make me finally sleep. A good sleep makes a big difference.

I have it too. It seems pretty common.

I do the piriformis stretch (sitting in chair position or the on the back position) for it. The piriformis stretch keeps it tolerable.

I also get trigger point injections for it.

Core stability type exercises also help (pilates, yoga, weight machines, fencer style squats at gym).
