Twisten,

If you have disc problems that are causing the nerve issues, going to a chiro can be dicey. Your discs are already out of alignment most probably, and then the chiro is going to work on your back without having an MRI to see what is truly wrong. He can do more damage than good in the short haul. It's a risky step.

Chiros can be good in certain situations, but with the issues you have going on right now, it's not something that I would suggest. Better to be safe than sorry. You probably have discs that are pressing on nerves that are causing all the issues....not something to mess with without the proper guidance.

Is anyone familiar with what this could be? I've been having problems with my legs aching off and on for months now and a few days ago I started getting a deep stabbing pain in my left butt cheek that now seems to be spreading to the other side. Sorry to be graphic but its at the level of my butt crack. The pain is worse when I'm sitting or laying down and cushions don't seem to help. The leg pain is down the back of my legs and sometimes into the outside of my feet. I wouldn't call it electric type shocks but an achiness with some tingling that comes and goes. There is some discomfort when walking but not near as bad as sitting or laying down. I fell and cracked my tailbone a year or so ago and am wondering if that is related? I do have a doctor appt for next week but its going to be tough to handle this until then.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Well, the celebrex is doing nothing to help. Should it help if this is a disk problem and not sacroilitis? I'm going to ask for some testing next week. I just don't know how I'm going to get through the next week. I haven't slept in 2 nights.

Twisten,

I also have pain in my buttocks and yes, sitting is quite uncomfortable. Eventually the pain goes into my legs and gives me very paralyzing pain. I've been on a whole host of pain killers including the one you mentioned and morphine. I am now on methadone and neurontin. They work really well. Most importantly I get three epidermal injections a year. I couldn't function without them. I'm having one next week and I'm so glad because my buns are already beginning to ache and are turning rock hard.
Do yourself a favor and ask your doctor to refer you to a pain specialist for these injections! Along with my pain medication I can function more or less normally although my spine and other injuries make me far from a normal body.

Could be SI pain. I have this and tend to get pain in my thighs and rear end. Sometimes the stabbing is really bad. I take Lyrica, Percocet and Celebrex. I was on Oxycotin but wanted to do a trial without it. They can also isolate and ablate the affected nerves at a good pain-management center.

Sorry for all the pain that you are having. What you are describing sounRAB like nerve pain. There are tests that can be done to clarify this, but I owuld bet my last nerve pain pill that that is what is causing the problem. That dull achiness is almost more than bearable, isn't it?

There are several meRAB out on the market that are specific for nerve pain. They were found to quell it as a side effect to seizures. Some of the more common ones are Nuerontin - one of the oldest, Topomax, Lyrica. All of they come with their own set of side effects, you just need to find one that will work for you!

Hope you can find some relief. You might try some of the heat paRAB that they sell for sore muscles in the mean time. That and heating paRAB, hot baths, hot tubs..all of these have worked for me...good luck and let me know how it goes with the doc. 'K?

My pain management specialist retired last year so I'll have to get my family doc to find a new one. I didn't have to go to him very often, just if I needed a med change or if new symptoms showed. I was also on 15 mg morphine in the morning and 30 at night but stopped that against my pain management docs advice probably close to 2 years ago now. I'm sure wishing I'd have listened now!! Interesting event today, talked to my pharmacist, was a different one working yesterday than normal, and he told me to absolutely not take the celebrex. I guess because of the crohns disease, I've already had a fistula from it, and celebrex could cause more. I didn't find it was doing anything anyway. Can they do injections if it is crohns related sacroilitis because I was told it won't always show on tests when its crohns or uc related?? I don't know anything about these injections so will have to read up on them and see if they are an option.

Sorry all, I meant MS Contin 15 mg a.m. and 30 mg p.m. and I put morphine instead. My doctor has switched me to the fentanyl patch until things settle down. I don't know the dose yet because my son is picking it up for me but I imagine 25 mg.

sounRAB like your sciatic nerve.....
you need a chiropractor.....they can fix that right up with a few adjustments

Twisten ,I`m sorry to hear about your pain..And also can empathise with how your feeling.
Back in the summer ,i got knocked down ,and run over (foot) by a car...also affected was my left hip.
I also have ddd and fibromyalgia ,and often suffer from sciatica...but this is different..
Usualy i get nurabness ,and pain travelling down my leg and into my feet ,but ,like you are experiencing ,i`m getting really agonising pain in my left buttock......it does spread sometimes ,but mainly the pain is right where you described..
pain meRAB seem to do nothing ,as does keeping as active as poss(IMpossible right now!) ,and sitting and laying is agony..
I`m asking my gp mnonday for further exams..ie new more up to date mri scans..
giood luck ,i know how awful this is...like a toothache in your behind ,that just won`t quit! hope you get some relief asap!

Overly tight hamstring muscles could be the cause. If this is your problem you will need to do hamstring stretching exercises.

My doc squeezed me in today and gave me an rx for celebrex, 100mg once a day. She thinks its sacroilitis because of my crohns but I had that before and I don't think the pain is the same. I'm already on gabapentin 100mg 3 times a day but it doesn't seem to be doing much. I'm allowed 50 pills of 4mg of dilaudid a month because of my chronic pain but it doesn't even appear to be doing much. Hopefully the celebrex helps but if not I have to go back next week and maybe she'll run some tests then. I'm not sure why but I've had a neurologist and a surgeon both tell me not to go to a chiropractor.

twisten,

Get an MRI - that will tell you what is happening at the disc level - I agree with "ibake&pray" it does sound like a disc problem/sciatica.

Good luck!
