I'm not sure if this is the best place for this, but I couldn't find a board that seemed to be an acceptable suitor.

Background
I am a 24 year old male. When I was in high school 7 or so years ago, a physician for my high school football team felt my hips and thought maybe I had some sort of slight defect, like they weren't perfectly in line or something. But nothing further was ever investigated.

Problem
Recently I've had some strange pains that are in only my right buttocks and extend down my leg and into my foot. Instantly, I know what you are thinking: Sciatica - or something of that sort. That may be the case. I've just never had problems before so I don't know all what they feel like.

The deal is my right buttocks and leg start to hurt after some time sitting, even if in a comfy chair. The pain goes away if I sit in a position so that all my weight is on my opposite side. The pain also happens if I am sleeping on the side the pain is on. Sometimes the pain feels like the leg is just tired or something, hard to completely describe.

The part that has been really troubling me is the bone that sticks out somewhat in the buttocks. (apologies for lack of technical terms, I am no doctor). On the left side (the side that is fine), when I sit on a very hard object like a hard-wood floor there is no pain, however on my right side I feel like that bone in my buttocks is "sticking out" further than the one on the left. There is some pain associated with this, but more in that "I can feel that this hurts worse than this" sort of way. And often when I sit down, it just feels like my right buttocks is "fuller" than my left or that like something is inside. When I feel around with my hanRAB, however, I feel nothing that seems out of place.

I read that typically Sciatica issues are associated with back pains. In my lower back on my right side, I can occasionally feel a twinge of pain but nothing that bad and not as frequent as my butt/leg pain.

I'm concerned about that "bone" that sticks out in my right buttocks. My fear is that there is more than bone there (like a tumor or something) and that is causing my pain. I've also noticed my body naturally tenRAB to put more weight on the right side when sitting (the side causing me pain) so maybe I've just been doing this all my life and its finally starting to take its toll?

Anyways, I do plan on going to a doctor eventually, I am just very concerned about what it might be and to see if some of you could give me some advice. The pain started about 2.5 months ago and went away at one point but has seemed to returned at a somewhat of a lesser extent as the first time.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks.

I would suggest you get to the doctor, and find out for sure.

I am dealing with something similar right now. I noticed my hip hurt in mid-October, and it got progressively worse until it finally got too painful, and I ended up in the ER. It turned out to be a deep muscle that connects my spine to my hip (piniformis). Between medication and physical therapy, it is finally getting better.

The orthopedic doctor first x-rayed my hip, which ruled out any tumors, misalignment, or problems with the discs, first. That is where you want to start. Don't wait...and until then, try not to worry. You may want to use ice and heat alternately, take ibuprofen, and don't overdo it.

I am having the same pain it is so bad!!!!! I went in to my doctor for leg pain and butt pain I had a Mri done and found out that I have a annular tear with DDD so I would suggest not waiting around I would go to the doctor even though your back isn't hurting there may still be a disc problem. I am going to have fusion surgery next month because of this. Good luck hope all goes well with you.;)

SomethingNFG,

After having 3 back surgeries including an L4/L5 fusion, I found out my symptoms which were very similar to yours were due to my left sacroiliac (SI) joint being shot and not my back. I'm having my SI joint fused on January 4.

I was misdiagnosed by a very prominent spinal center with lots of orthopedic spine surgeons.

Most doctors and even spine surgeons don't know how to diagnose SI joint problems, and SI joint problems don't always show up on traditional medical tests like x-rays & MRI's. Also, SI joint problems can affect people of all ages.

One of the biggest symptoms of SI joint problems is sitting intolerance.

You can send me a private message if you'd like more information.

Read my other post on SI inflammation... Butt pain is one of the most common problems. Also Google SI joint pain.
