...underwater or do I haul out boat? I am hoping a piece of bronze plate could be welded onto the existing piece underwater or a just have a replacement rudder bolted in. If I can avoid hauling the boat out, that would be preffered. Where would I buy a replacement rudder?
No insurance is on the boat. This will be all out of pocket, so I am looking for low cost or DIY methods. I thought many rudders were made of bronze to facilitate underwater repairs. Suppose I was in some backwards Carribean country without replacement rudders? I was hoping I could pay a diver to weld on a plate of bronze to the existing extension. Are you all saying it cannot be done?
45 auto, The steering was noticeably worse. I have two rudders with one completely in tact; however 10 knot winds were blowing me all over the place and I had to do most of my steering with the engines coming into port after the rudder damage from some negligent fisherman who left his crap in an anchorage.
