recently I started expriencing a burning in my left chest. I went to my doctor, did ecg chest xray and other test, all is well. He prescride volterim and renitidine and activan. Since i started using them the heart burn got worst and now i have alot of gas, i bealch after everthing i eat and this constant burning sensation in my chest espercially the left side (why the left side). I also have heart palpation. I revisited the doctor today and he told me to stop the voltarim since it can increase heartburn and gas and it appears that i have acid reflux. I am furtrated and confuse and don't know wht else to do i just want to ease the discomfort. How long dose acid reflux last and how soon will i feel better it is really begining to worry me,

Hi JuliaJB,

When I have severe heartburn I always have chest pain and more of it happens on my right side. It sounRAB like your esophagus is sore from all the heartburn. Has your doctor said anything about taking medication to reduce the acid? Are you watching your diet? If you do a search here or on the Internet there is a plethora of information about what fooRAB to avoid. On top of the list is coffee, chocolate, peppermint, and fatty fooRAB. I find what helps me through is eating a bland diet. Some people talk about carbs being the problem but if I don't have something starchy with my proteins, vegetables or fruits I get severe heartburn. Maybe try altering your diet first and if that doesn't help ask about some medication or try Zantac or Pepcid over the counter. Prilosec is out there too which is in the family of the PPI's, the stronger medications for acid reflux. You might need to see a GI specialist if nothing helps to rule out things like a hernia. Try not to panic. I always do and it makes the problem so much worse. Deep breaths help me as well. Good luck.
