Bumped my head during surfing and felt sick afterwards?

Hey everyone,
well the weekend just gone, i went surfing (for the second time) with my boyfriend and his best mate. The waves i felt were quite powerful, and considering i'm only 5'1, they were also stood quite tall for me. One big wave knocked me off my feet and the surfboard hit me on the back of my head, it hurt for like half a minute or so but then it went, about an hour after that, one massive crashed on top of my head, and i was under the water for about 10 seconds, when i got to the surface i was shaking and rather terrified, so i started walking to the shore so i could get out for a bit, i was very wobbly whilst coming out and i was a bit dazed at the time.

My boyfriend rushed to me and was asking if i was okay, i was shaky but i didn't really feel that dizzy. When we were walking back up to the car i noticed that i was walking rather slow, and taking the wet suit off took a great deal of effort, i started to feel sick and real tired on the drive home. a few hours later i still felt rather sick but i had a slight achy feeling in two areas of my head, which obviously scared me because i didn't think i hit my head that hard.

The day after it still ached, but not as much as it did, but when me and my boyfriend had sex that night, i felt more dizzy then i usually do and my head started to ache again. I don't think it was concussion as i don't think the water hit me that hard, or i hit my head on anything else, at least i don't think so.. I am absalutley fine now, but i was just wondering if anyone has any information on this or any advice on what to do in case it happens again? as i am going surfing again in a couple of weeks, and i don't want to feel like that again!

Thanks guys!

there are a couple of things that actually occured during that surfing episode that could have created some level of problems for you now. number one was that hit to the base of your skull, and the simple fact you felt somewhat 'sick' after it(symptoms of possible concussion). and the other, being crashed into, even by "just' a wave like that, actually has been known to create c spine peoblems for some people. you could have had some level of underlying injury to your neck already which would have just made it a bit more "susceptable' to any further hits, you know what i mean? the simple fact that you even have a headache ort one that got much worse with physical activity, well getting at the very least here an MRI of that brain and the c spine really wouldn't hurt at this point. it would more thanlikely show any possible herniations or signs of even a small amount of swelling that jusdt can occur with a hit to the head. it would also probably have forced your neck to snap forward when you were not expecting it,so you were not 'braced' for that level of hit either. i would just to be on the safer side at this point, obtain that MRI of both areas. this is just something that should be checked out ya know?

the thing about underlying c spine issues or even within the brain itself, is that they do not always show themselves with any level of real symptoms til something kind of 'sets them off' like a sudden impact type injury? i would just rule on the side of safety with this. you just do not have any real clue as to what can be going on within any area of our bodies til you obtain at least some level of real hard look inside. hopefully this will all just go away on its own with some time, but do get that MRI so at least you know what things look like right now. let me know what you find out,K? good luck, FB
