I'm glad you like your new improvements, but I've got to disagree with whoever told you to ditch your fuel management system and go with a download instead. That is just making you fun factory/E.P.A. lean again. With a fuel management system you can richen up your A.F.R., run cooler and gain even more performance. It's all personal choice though. Regardless, enjoy your ride.

Jeff... for me it was less personal choice than economic necessity. My wife lost her job at the beginning of this year due to a tragic situation in our family and we're trying to hold on financially. But my Harley is the last thing I'd let go of... it's the one thing in my life that gives me the open space, the release from things.... you understand all that part, I'm sure. We bought it right before our son became a fallen hero and ever since then, life has been nothing like it ever was before.

Perhaps if and when I have an extra $1000 to spend, I will be able to go with a tuner and dyno. But right now, I'm really lucky just to have been able to get the 103ci kit that's been sitting in a box in my garage for almost a year installed. And thankfully, to my perception, it runs very well... even if it could run better. I'll be thinking of your suggestion down the road if our family's situation improves.

Good to hear that you've been able to get a little upgrade for your scoot. There's nothing wrong with a stage I 103, it's a good jump up from a stock 96.

It's nice to see you back on the forum.

I just read your other thread and let me first tell you that I am truely sorry for your loss. I have personally been in many "skirmishes", but left active duty prior to 911. I hope your bike gives you the same outlet that it provides me. That part aside, I do advocate a dyno, but you can get by without it if you get a fuel management system from Jamie at fuelmotousa. You can get it for under 300.00 and he will pre-program it for your specific set-up and you will reap much greater rewards for your 103 set-up. Best wishes, Jeff.

Jeff... thank you for your service... my family understands all too well how significant that service is.

Thanks for the suggestion on a fuel mgmt system from Jamie... so they will make a significant and noticible difference without any dyno tuning? What tuner are you referring to?

I use a PCV (Power Commander V), which I got from Jamie. And yes, it will make a significant change in performance to your bike. He also has a "generic" version of this for even less money. It's made by the same company and does the same thing, it just doesn't have their "badging" on it, it says fuelmoto instead. I'm telling you, if you call Jamie (who's a well respected vendor on this forum) he will definitely steer you in the right direction, and it won't cost you anywhere near a grand as you stated. Just tell him what your build consists of, what year your bike is, what air intake, exhaust, and he will pre-program it for you and no dyno-tune will be needed. I wish you well.

Dhart, if your bike isn't pinging or backfiring a lot on deceleration, both of which would indicate the bike is running too lean, I would leave well enough alone and save the EFI tuner for when you do the cams.

Twinrider... during break-in, I'll run up to 4k then roll off and let the bike decel and it's smooth as silk and not a pop or burble until, like 2.5k when I clutch and downshift and then I'll get a couple of minor burbles. Haven't detected any pinging, but I haven't been looking for that either... what's the best approach to detect pinging?
