Our two-year old son just fell of the changing table and grazed his spine as he fell. My husband noticed that where the graze was is a little hard lump like as if one vertebra was sticking out further than the others. We don't know if it was there before. He could walk normally after he fell and has now gone to sleep, he doesn't seem to be in any pain. Could he possibly have a spine injury? One that doesn't hurt?

He has a doctor's appointment Friday morning.

It would be great if someone who knows about spinal injuries could advise me.

Thanks

Call your pediatrician's office and ask them what to do. the doc might be able to fit him in now. That's what pediatricians are for.....I think they actually like to get called in the middle of the night:D

Chances are it's nothing more than the swelling that comes with a bone bruise....they can swell up and be very hard. Wait until he bangs his head and it swells up into a hard as rock "egg" on the head...scary but completely harmless. Might be the same thing on the back.

But when in doubt, call your pediatrician.

Thankyou for all your comments. I feel I have discovered a great new forum!

The lady next door, who is a nurse, came home and examined him and said it was just a bump like you get on your head, but advised me to mention it to the pediatrician on Friday who might feel that an x-ray would be advisable.

The bump has gone down and he is running round cheerfully doing all those things two-year-olRAB love, like covering the dog with yoghurt, unrolling loo paper and pushing the coal skuttle through the house.

Thanks again for making me feel less alone with the bump.
