Built-In IM App - ANYONE using it?

Ok. I'm really bothered by the presence of the IM app built-into S60 phones. I've always just accepted it's uselessness and went with Agile, however, Agile is now charging.

I simply refuse to believe that there are so many S60 devices out there and yet no one is using this particular app. It's in there for a reason, SOMEONE must be using it.

I've got a screenname on AIM, Yahoo!, MSN, and GoogleTalk, and am willing to try any of them. I'd MOST like to get AIM and GoogleTalk, but just to get SOMETHING working on it would be great.

Are there any European or Asian users out there who use this? I'm sure there's a way to use it, or else Nokia wouldn't put it in their phones.
 
ive used it before, i dont use it for normal use tho, i just used it to see how it works, go to www.yamigo.com and configure it up properly, works fine in the phone, just i dont like yamigo all that much, get a bunch of network busy's and junk.
 
Hmmm. I'd tried Yamigo a long time ago, I think on my 6620, but I don't think I ever got it to connect. I'll try it again, but I hate that I'd have to go through a third party to get that done. I wish Nokia would work a little closer with AIM, MSN, and Yahoo! (and Google) to get something usable. Even the Cingular app is half-decent.

Also wish those services would release a client like they have for the other platforms.
 
what else do you guys use? I used AgileMsngr on my old 6600 and 6630, but i never upgraded past version 3.1x something (because any subsequent version wouldn't work with Tmobile's 4.99/5.99$ tzones/tmoweb plan), what else is out there, especially for 3rd edition?
 
Agile is out for 3rd Edition, but it costs now.
IM+ has a 3rd Edition version but I could never get the trial version to connect to AIM

I used JohnnyChat for a while, recently switched to Eqo, but both are java and that disappoints me. I can't believe there's such a lack of programs that do this.
 
You would think so wouldn't you. Agile and IM+ are two of the most popular ones but they both require a constant data connection to work, not to mention they are not free programs. That is a huge draw back imo. I personally don't like either and simply use AIM and Yahoo via SMS since it doesn't require me to maintain a data connection, but on the downside it doesn't update the contacts either.
 
I agree. That's really what I'm looking for. Something that'll update the contacts list, but yet not keep a constant connection. Something like the Cingular IM app, where you sign on, see who's online, chat with whom you want, and then exit the app. When you get an incoming message, it re-starts the app. Surely someone could extract the jar or jad file.

The thing i dont like about the built in cingular app, is that it doesnt alert you that you have a new IM, only by a sound. but when you put the phone on silent, you wont know you have a new IM cause it doesnt have a vibrate IM alert, they should also add an alert on the idle screen so you know you have a waiting IM. also when you have multiple conversations and you get an IM, you dont know which user IMed you, you have to go through each coversation to see who it was. agile was so much better.

but i think the best built in AIM app has to be the Sidekick AIM program, it worked flawlessly!
 
When I had my Palm Treo 600 through Cingular, I used "Verichat" for my IM services.

I currently have AIM and Yahoo Messenger and what I don't like about the Cingular app is that I can only be online or connected with one of them.

I liked Verichat because the buddy list would show the running man icon for AIM and the face for Yahoo and I could communicate with either Yahoo or AIM in IM'ing.

Does AgileMessenger let you do that?

When I had Verichat, I did have it set to SMS and it alerted me of new messages and seemed to update contacts, but I could be wrong since I didn't really add too many more.

But I currently have the unlimited dataplan, so I guess I'd be ok with always connected.
