Buffet or Sit down Meal for reception?

It all depends on the venues you are looking into. You need to search were you plan on having it and ask the wedding caterer/coordinator to email you their wedding packages.

It really all depends on the venue and who is catering - usually, despite what most people think, a sit down dinner is cheaper; but again it all depends on who your vendors are.
I personally like the sit down dinners - I think it gives it a more formal feel and you don't have everyone getting up and down out of their seats; you just get everything served to you at the table. I think if you are working with a smaller space a sit-down dinner is much nicer and makes things seem less crowded. As a woman I know that I prefer the formal dinners - it can be hard to be in a fancy dress, high heels, etc. and trying to carry around a plate of food.

Generally a buffet is cheaper because you don't need as many servers and it doesn't need as much effort to cook. But sit down or buffet depends a lot on the venue.

Personally I prefer a buffet because not everyone eats the same amount and with served dishes there's not enough food for some people and too much for others. Also, people's taste differs so if it's buffet they have more choice of what they want (and how much they want).

You're welcome :)

A sit down meal is so much classier.

I've been to about 8 weddings in the last year and all the talk afterwards was about the meal and drinks available. Its so unfortunate that people find those things a memorable part of a wedding :-(

Choose wisely, as a sit down meal may not offer the range a buffet can. Some people are fussy.
You can always send out a menu with a choice of meat (steak), fish and chicken. They send it back with the RSVP.

A buffet style is usually quite a bit cheaper. But I think a sit down plated meal is always better. I don't think guests should have to go and get their own food, they should be served and treated like a guest.

Buffet is usually always cheaper, unless you have like a full blown seafood buffet.
I would say for anything more than 50 people a buffet is a must unless the wedding is VERY formal. Otherwise buffet is the way to go. People can eat when they want to and what they want to and the cost is less.
Plated dinners work out great for more intimate weddings where there are less people running around and there is a full wait staff for everything that goes with the meal.
