Buffet etiquette advise?

Wondering what the buffet etiquette could be in this situation. Pay is after we eat. Guests take plates and help themselves to the food that is lined up. If the person next to us is taking his/her time and we don't want that dish, do you think it's okay to pass behind the person and go on the other side of the person to the next dish where it is empty? Now, by this time, the person who is passed is done helping himself and might want the next dish, but I am already there before him. Would that be rude? The place isn't very formal and I haven't really seen people following a line. They seem to go to whatever dish they are interested in but I wondered if you would care if you were passed. Thanks for the feedback guys.
