Buell Motorcycles is gone. What Ducati should I buy?

I was going to by an XB12X or Lightning Long. Now I just want a pleasant, comfortable bike with great handling and a good ride. Antilocks, and traction control might be nice, but I ride my motorcycle to work every day. I don't want a racer replica or anything that gives me shoulder cramps. What Ducati should I looks at first? Anything else, like a favorite BMW, that might make a good commuter and pleasant back road basher?

My favorite is one of the BMW R1200 series. IMHO, while it's not ultra fast, with the right accessories, the R1200GS is the perfect commuter bike and an excellent long-distance touring bike with a bit of off-road capability. Pretty much the best all-around bike on the market today.

Buell went backrupt less than 60 days ago, there are a lot of Buells sitting on showroom floors.
