I have this bet with my friend and one of us thinks that Brutus was Caesar's best friend and one of us thinks that Brutus was his nephew. If you could provide some evidence/research to back it up it would be great to finally seal the deal.

They were friends,at any rate, not related. I don't know if Brutus
was Caesar's best friend, but they were close. For some reason Caesar seemed to be fond of Brutus. What makes
Brutus' betrayal even more tragic was that Caesar had
ordered his men not to kill him when he sided with Pompey
years earlier in the civil war,and when the war ended Caesar
forgave Brutus immediately when forgiveness was asked.
Caesar probably expected some measure of loyalty in return
for his generosity.

Some say they grew up together, others say they met through politics and the army. Either way, Caesar put great trust in Brutus after his conquest in Gaul and defeat of Pompey.

If one of your options had to be chosen, it would be that they were best friends. Caesar's closest thing to a nephew was Octavian.

Brutus was Ceasar's best friend. At least according to Shakespeare's "Julius Ceasar"....

Brutus was a common name at that time, so it's likely they both are true but the famous Brutus is of no relation to Caesar. They knew each other from the senate but I don't believe they were best friends.
