Bruising causing concern

Hi there, I dont know where else to put this because other than this slight problem I am in good health and there is nothing wrong with me
I am 17, I do take a pill (the pill) for several reasons, but I dont know whether that would affect this.

Right, as of late, I have been getting some serious looking bruises all over my legs (these look as though I have been beaten up quite severely). I am quite accident prone, but never before have I had such bruises that I am worried slightly.

The only things that have changed in my life are a new boyfriend (he's lovely, so the bruises arent from him XD) and I have started excersising a lot more than I used to.

They show up very clearly as I am very pale, and the bruises are a horrible black and purple colour. They are on my upper leg, and my lower leg on the inside, they dont hurt to touch them, and I dont want to waste time at the doctors if they arent serious - I dont know whether to be worried about these or not, should I see my doctor?

Thank you :3

I would check with your doc for 2 reasons. The Pill used to be a big cause of blood clots in the legs and may have something to do with it. But of a bigger concern is a possible problem with your clotting mechanisms. These diseases tend to show up in the legs first as blood pools all day in the legs and if you are having problems with bleeding, it will show there first. My daughter had something called ITP...idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. Her body just started destroying her platelets. I noticed bruises on her legs growing larger instead of smaller or staying the same. It's a disease that happens spontaneously or after the flu or chicken pox. She had neither. Most cases cure themselves and are self-limited but in her case, she needed to go steroids for a while but recovered completely.

So it's worth checking out if you can't remember how you got them and they grow in size. There are other things that can cause this but that's my experience. And hopefully, you'll turn out to be fine and can relax with that new boyfriend!
