Bruise accompanied by sweliing. Normal?

This question is actaully not about me, but about my mum. About 5 days ago we were outside Kaiser Hospital when she tripped and fell (She has bad knees and poor balance) She was fine beside a skinned knee and pain in her thigh. There was nothing on her thigh, but the next day a giant black/purple bruise the size of her hand appeared on the side of her thigh. It's since gotten larger/darker and is very swollen. I think she is concerned about it since she bruises very easily because of the meRAB she takes. Is this normal? Or is it just a really bad bruise? Should she see a doctor?
 
it's just a really bad bruise. When people get older your skin gets fragile. If the bruise continues to get larger then i would def see a doctor. I would try to ice and see if swelling decreases.

I would say ice for about 5 days and if it has gotten larger or swelling not decreased then see a doctor.
