Hi, everybody... got a question; I've discovered "browse host", and it's a nice feature. However, sometimes I can't do that for some users. Anybody know why or how or both? Thanks in advance..

Sometimes the host you want to browse is unavalable. They could have disconnected or shutdown. There could also be programs present that keep you from getting browsed by other users. I think PeerGuardian blocks browsing, but I'm not sure. I hope this helps.

In addition to the comments of deepblue above, is the simple detail that many clients permit the user to disable or disallow others from 'Browsing' them...

There are many reasons why people would wish to disallow others from browsing... One obvious one is that 56K modem users can hardly afford the bandwidth...

Hello. and thanks to flagburner, ursula, morgwen, and anybody else who answered my post. I was curious (thankfully, it hasn't killed me yet), and you all enlightened me! I appreciate it, and happy holidays to you all. If you're NOT celebrating for some reason, then just have a contented day...

Sorry about that, deepblue; I looked after I posted my reply, b/c I thought something wasn't quite right, but I didn't think I could do anything about it then. I've since learned differently...

I do know that Thanksgiving is a U.S. holiday , but just b/c people have the day off doesn't mean that they'll do anything special to celebrate. Unless, of course, you're in a different country, then you can do whatever you have to or want to do! And some people are thankful for stuff every day, too. Tons of different outlooks on life; makes things interesting, don't you think?

Just one point! You may find it easier to browse those that have Chat enabled. This rule is not uniform, but in my experience it does seem to improve browsing if they do have it enabled. But you can still browse some that don't have it enabled. It is more effective when browsing those that are uplding from you. If they have chat icon listed next to their ip then chances are you'll have a much better chance of browsing them. But to reiterate, deepblue's initial response explains the rest & ursula's comment it's often more difficult to browse dial-up users.
