Brown Flaky Bumps on Dog?

I've recently noticed that my lab's stomach and chest were getting a little red. On closer inspection I found that he has several brown crusty/flaky bumps on him. These are mostly towards his back legs and genital area but they appear to be spreading up his stomach and I even found one on a front paw. They don't appear to be anywhere else on him. He has been scratching and I'm not sure if that caused these bumps or if the scratching is because of the bumps. I know I need to take him to the vet but has anyone else experienced something similar?
 
worst case scenario could be mange, 2 types, one type is contagious and one type hard to treat. It could also just be allergies. Take the dog to the vet to get a skin scraping test.
