Broken Backpack Zipper. PLEASE HELP ME!?

My backpack is brand new. I got it a couple weeks ago. Anyway, there is this special part of the backpack that let's you unzip it and it gives you more space for your books and stuff. But recently, the teeth of the zipper have become uneven causing the zipper to not close completely. I have NEVER used that specific feature. So my question is, how can I get the zipper to become aligned correctly again.

P.S. I don't want to take it to be 'repaired' unless that's the ONLY option.

I would suggest just to open the zipper. mine used to do that in like kindergarten, but I don't remember how my dad/granddad got it fixed. sorry.
