I have a 99 Buick centrury and i think they need new break pads but i don't know where to go to get them done or how much it should cost. I don't want to get ripped off cuz i have a newborn that is in the vehicle. Please help me figure out how much i should be spending, what kind of questions to ask the mechanic and what the best kind of break pads there are for my vehicle.

Most pads are about the same, but you can ask the guy at Auto Zone about them. I am a 28 year old woman who does my own brakes. With disk brakes, it would be really hard to do them wrong. There is pretty much only one way to put them on and most any man you may know should know how to do them and do it for no more than 50 bucks for the front. If the rotors don't have lines on them and the car don't shake when you hit the brakes going fast then they probably are good. They should not even have to unhook the brake line, so they won't get air in the lines and need to be bled. As for back brakes, if they are not disk brakes, I never have messed with them because they are harder. You are looking at around 150 for them. I would never pay more than 200 for the whole job. Have a man go with you definately because they will try to screw any female. They tried to screw me and I know how to do it myself, just can't anymore.

Pep boys, Sears service, take a male friend with you if you are worried about being ripped off. You may need rotors turned or replaced if they are scored.
