Breach of contract - possibly small claims court. What can I do to win the case?

I hired an interior designer to design/furnish my home this summer. We signed a contract with the following details:

- floor plans will be created
- choices for furniture, art and accessories will be offered
- interior designer will spend required time with me purchasing selected items
- i pay first half payment when the project starts, and the remaining balance upon project completion

The designer fulfilled #1 and some of #2, but not #3 and #4. Now the interior designer wanted full payment before the project completes, claiming that she's put many hours on this project, and deserves the rest of the payment (also insisted she's finished #2). I refused and she threatened to bring this to small claims court (through email).

So... calling out all of you intelligent lawyers, would you advise me as to what my next steps would be, how I can get myself covered, and if I'd to fight this case, how do I present myself to win the case over? She has a business lawyer to help her obviously. Although I have strong proofs and some witnesses, I fear they know the trick to make their way through.

Your advise is greatly appreciated. Thank you...
