brake issues with 1993 buick?

its a 93 regal grand sport and it has some brake issues that we cannot figure out. when we got it the front brakes would sound like they are grinding and the brake pedal was pulsating and was hard to apply. we changed the rotors and pads in the front twice, the rears were fine, and it continues to have issues. now the anti-lock brake light is on and wont pass on e-check. the brakes look to be in working order. my uncles say there is nothing wrong with the brakes and the light is on because of electrical problems. i don't thing the grinding is an electrical problem the light maybe so. I don't have the money to have the ABS system fully checked out so i am getting my uncles to help when i figure what the problem is. so any one got any idea what is wrong.
 
You likely have a problem with your break booster. This would explain the stiff pedal. This is the unit that provides you with power brakes (round black thing behind master cylinder). This unit also produces a grinding noise on most GM models after running incorrectly for a time. This is very common on a lot of their models, particularly 3.8L and 4.3L V6.

When this unit is not functioning properly will not allow the ABS brake system to work because it the system does not have enough power to activate the brakes (just like the hard pedal).
 
if the abs light was not on prior, either the caliper pistons were collapsed without opening the bleeder valve and expelling the fluid out through there, which would force the fluid back into the system. This can cause the abs light to come on. It must be bled, sometimese in a specific sequence to recenter the abs valve.

You need to have it checked. If the abs light is illuminating, the abs won't work.
 
Hey Scott: First of all, when a vehicle gets the brakes replaced the mechanic should open the bleeder ports before they push the caliper piston back in. If this is not done contaminated fluid may be distributed into the valve body of the anti-lock system. this will result in the anti-lock brakes into a hard code and signal the light to illuminate a fault in the system.
When ever the front brakes are replaced on a vehicle w/rear drum brakes is alway, always essential to adjust the rear brakes. always.
This could be why you are getting a grind form the front, they are the only brakes stopping the momentum of your vehicle.
 
I would look to the power booster. They make noise when going out. The ABS system can not work without power assistance causing the light to turn on.
