Older men often have BPH and chronic prostatitis. Both are treated with the same medication, sometimes along with an antibiotic. BPH is usually treated with alpha-blockers (Tamsulosin) and 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors. If meds do not work you may need surgical removal of the prostate.
Guess you need to decide whether the side effects are better than having prostate surgery.
My husband was told to wear only cotton boxer shorts in order to help prevent prostate infections. Knit briefs do not allow for enough air circulation and cooling.
