So what's your point? If the cleanup cost is $60 billion, they're still profiting $186 billion, cut 40% of that for lost stock/investment. They end up still making close to $100 billion in profits, not too mention another $236 billion in assets. What's the Maximum the US can charge in fines? Probably less than the $100 billion they will profit this year. You're not making a case for yourself.

Will it hurt them severely, yes? But, not enough to make them go even close to bankruptcy.
 
by federal law, the maximum fine they can possibly pay is $75 million

That's what I thought the maximum was, they're working on passing a bill now to raise the fine to $10 billion.
 
In comparison BP's 1st quarter profits for 2010 were roughly $61M daily.

why not just take their profits from last year, get it in singles, and shove that down there to plug it up.
 
i hope bp goes under just to make a point to other companies to be more responsible for their actions.
