My boyfriend really wants to join the army reserves and I am in support of him but I have my own "fears" and I just think they stem from not being educated about the Reserves. So I have been researching different Army websites and reading ppl's Q &A's on Answers; some things are clear but others are not... if anyone can help me out or give me a little advice that would be great. I am really concerned because we are just starting to make plans for our future to get married and start a family over the next 3yrs. and this seems like a huge step and I'm not sure of what we might be about to encounter.
1) How long can I expect him to be away from me within the first year?
2) Does he automatically get selected randomly for active duty or is it something he has to choose when signing up?
3) How often does Army Reserves get called for combat and do they have to fight? (How likely would it be that he gets called over to Iraq or Afghanistan)
4) Are there any resources available to help him study for the ASVAB test
5) Will it be hard on us financially even if im working and he has a civilian job as well as the Reserves?
6) Should I be nervous at this point!!!? (Is it that much of a lifestyle change with the Reserves?)
If I think of more questions I will post again but for right now Id just like some advice to calm my nerves so that I can be there 100% for him because right now I'm only behind him 85% and that will not be helpful to the situation.
