Bought an unlocked iphone off friend...now wont sinc my itunes songs to phone?

I bought it from my friend...but even though I press sinc in my itunes, it doesnt work.
All her music is still on the iphone, and not even my music goes on it.
I really dont want to have to restore it because then im afraid it`ll lock the phone back up.
Any ideas?
