I bought a used van from a private seller on the 23rd of June. There is a lien from Chrysler on the title but the van was paid off the day before I paid for the van. I had the sellers call Chrysler (who the loan was through) and have them fax a paper to the sec. of state telling them the vehicle was paid off so that I could get the van registered in my name. Chrysler faxed the wrong paper, it didn't have the VIN # on it, so the SOS would not accept it. The sellers called Chrysler last Wed. to tell them we needed a "release of lien" and Chrysler said they'd fax it by within 24 hours to my husband's work fax. Thursday comes, and there is no fax. The sellers call Chrysler again and they said it would be there within 10 min. Well by this point my husband was not going to be back to work until Mon. (today) He checks at work this morning, and there was no fax. I call Chrysler myself this morning and explain the situation. Chrysler says the van is paid off, but that he can't fax it without the seller's authorization. So the seller calls again and Chrysler says it'll be faxed to my husband's work by 4 PM today. Why would it not be immediate? What can I do? I'm stuck home with a baby & a toddler and no vehicle. I've already had to cancel 2 appts. and other things I was planning to do. I am going crazy! I recently sold my car and was in the same situation. I did not have the payoff letter from the bank to give the buyer of my car so I called the bank & they immediately faxed it to the secretary of state and there was no problems. I don't understand why this is so complicated or why they can't just fax it immediately. Chrysler keeps saying it will be with in 24 hours, or by 4 today, or whatever. Then they don't do it!
