Bought a Straight Talk Samsung T255 to upgrade older phone so why doesn't it work?

Just bought a Straight Talk Samsung T255 to replace my older (broken) LG. The website always seems like a hassle so I called CS which I could barely understand the rep. I had issues in the begining, now I'm waiting? Anyone have any issues? Also my new phone says "Activation Required" on the main screen and will not work, but when I check the numbers it shows my old number? My old phone had already been activiated but the new phone doesn't work... how long does this take??
