Bought my first camping/survival knife online. Read the reviews. They said it was a good knife for beginners but as far as any cheap blade goes, it gets dull quickly. However, the knife came dull. It came with a sharpening stone which I wet, as per an online guide I read, and started sharpening. It didn't seem to get sharp at all. Wouldn't even cut a paper napkin. So I bought a real sharpening kit at Wal-Mart today and did about 2 dozen strokes each side in the same manner in which the instructions with the kit said to do, then turned over the sharpener and used the "fine" sanding side for a quick hone. After that went to test it out, still dull.
Can anyone explain to me what may be going wrong or how long it takes to get a dull knife sharp? I'm holding the blade at a 10-15 degree angle (probably 10-20 degrees really).
