My family has decided to get a border collie. We picked him out today and are going to pick him up on Tuesday. He is a 9 week tricolor male. I have a few questions, but first let me explain. We have no young children in our family. Just my mom and dad, and me (only child). I am 16. We have a large back yard though it is not fenced in. I am an avid runner and go for an hour a day. My mom walks for an hour every day. She would take him on her walk and I would take him on my run. I would also love to teach my border collie obedience tricks to keep him mentally stimulated and take him out in the snow to play in the winter. The problem is I don't have an agility course, and there isn't one nearby. Will my BC be okay with the exercise of a regular dog, plus mental stimulation throught obedience?
p.s.- My aunt's neighbor has a BC that does about the same activites as I plan for mine to do and he is happy as can be. Is this the norm for BC's who go without herding? Can they be happy as a well-exercised family pet?
Thank you.
