My daughter is 9 months old and is very small for her age (15th percentile) The doctor wants me to pump and feed her by bottle during the day to make sure she is getting enough bmilk. (I have tons saved in the freezer, so when I don't pump enough to make 5 oz (all she will take), I add some of my freezer stash) I think I need to boost my supply, I usually only get about 3oz each time I pump. Yesterday and today (so far) I have been pumping every 2 hours for 20min. I let her nurse for her morning feeding at 6:30am and her bedtime feeding at 8pm. How long until I will notice a difference in my milk?
My daughter has a ASD (hole inside her heart) this can cause her to be small...but because she has gone down in percentiles since 2 months...they want to be sure that this isn't because of her heart. That is why we need to know exactally how much she is eating. When I pump normally...I get 3oz...but every 2 hrs I am getting only about 1.5oz. When she nurses it is only for about 8 minutes...she will not nurse for any longer. I KNOW a baby can always get more out than a pump. But if she only wants to eat for 4 min on each side..I can't imagine she is getting that much more than when I pump....
For the past few months, she has been a short nurser, leaving her on for longer isn't an option. I thought that maybe she wasn't getting enough of my rich milk that comes later, but when I pump right after she eats, I get nothing.
She does eat food. I make my own baby food for her with organic fruits and veggies...the amount I give her is a little more than a stage 3 food.
