Boosting my immune system?

During August of 2008, I went through surgery to remove my right ovary after a 20cm x 12cm granulosa cell tumour was trapped inside of it. I am only sixteen years old, so you can imagine what impact it has had on me.

Since the operation, I have had:
* An infection in the wound (which had to be drawn out using SILVER strips and several IVs a day).
* A severe ear infection.
* A very, very bad case of tonsilitus
* Thrush (as a result of all the antibiotics pumped into my system...which was cured with antibiotics. Oh, the irony!)
* A chest infection.

That is just the tip of the iceberg - from at least October 2008 to now, I have been sick every single week. From colds to upset stomachs to flus, you name it, I've had it.

There's no point going to the doctor, they'll just tell me it's a result of the operation and to get as much bed rest as possible, which is why I'm trying to find alternative methods of boosting my immune system. I have EXTREMELY important exams to undergo from May to June; I have always been a straight-A student, but all of the time I'm missing from school is severely taking its toll on my confidence in school.

Not to mention the fact that it is seriously affecting my social life - last Saturday was the first time I went out with my friends in eight months; as a result, I now have the flu.

Is there anything I can do to boost my immune system? I have seriously hit rock bottom, I don't know what to do with myself anymore. Any help will be very much appreciated. x

I was told (by my alternative med dr) to take 1000 units of D3 per day to boost my immune system. This was suggested by Dr. Oz on Oprah and one of the late night doctors on PBS's special health & wellness programming. My body was completely drained of everything(vits & minerals) and I could not stay well. I have also been taking a wonderful liquid vitamin called Complete Nutrition (brand name is Glacial Milk). I have talked to several people including 2 of my doctors about this brand and after looking over all the ingredients they think this product is a good choice. Well, good luck to you.

Personally I like drink Spirutein or Fruitein shakes. They are great source of vitamins, minerals and nutrients. Not only do I feel better and barely ever get sick (only a very occasional cold) but another great bonus is that they keep my skin clear. Also a fan of Naked smoothies and Bolthouse Farms drinks.

My Medicine Shaman Doctor suggested I take 1000mg of Vitamin C per day and 3 times that amount if feeling fluey.
Also the obvious:
Eat fresh fruit and veg every day, get lots of rest, avoid stress, give up smoking if you smoke, try not to drink alcohol. Basically never let yourself get really run down.

I recently went through a self imposed detox to get healthy. This involved eating nothing but raw fruit and veg, drinking fruit juice and herbal teas for the first 3 days then introducing soups and steamed vegies back in to meals. I felt FANTASTIC after doing it!
No milk, bread, gluten or dairy for a few days straight seemed to do me the world of good! I have now reintroduced those things in small doses but it has been so easy to keep some of it out! I no longer feel the need for sugar in tea or coffee for example. I use honey if I really feel like something sweet and I use sultanas on my porridge. Its worth making the sacrifice to feel healthy!!

Goodluck with your health and your exams!!

A year ago I began taking colostrum to help with my arthritis. An additional benefit that I credit to the colostrum is boosting my immunity.
